Day 1:
Left Carmarthen West Wales on Sunday 5th. Heading for Scotland. Travelled via Aberystwyth and up to North West Wales via the A55.
The rain on the A55 was so heavy the traffic was pulling over and stopping.
We headed and eventually joined the M6 heading north.
The radio said that there were flooding problems in the Scottish borders so we decided to divert to high ground and headed off the motorway at Jct 34 and made our way to the Yorkshire Dales.
On the B6255 we spotted a small Inn with adjoining campsite. We spent our first night here after a lovely meal and some ale in the inn. Cost with ehu £14.
In the inn we chatted to some locals and they recommended a place called Dent on the Dales.

Day 2:
Travelled along miles of single lane back roads to the small town of Dent. As we arrived the tarmac came to an end and then we realised we had to drive on the cobble streets !
An ample car park was found. We stayed here for hours and it was tempting to use the campsite there. We then headed to Hawes and explored there. We spent the night at a caravan park near Sedbergh. Cost with ehu £17.

Day 3:
Headed back to the M6 and north to Scotland. Came off the M74 at jct 15 and headed up the A708 viewing the Grey Mare’s tail and stopping at Saint Marys Loch. Here we found the Inn where we stayed in their car park for £10. Here I met Brian from Glasgow who bought me Jura whiskey - the landlord recommended visiting Peebles.

Day 4:
Heading East for Peebles. Peebles was lovely. Parks either side of the Tweed and free parking all day. We stayed all day. I chatted to a couple eating Fish and chips and enquired where the shop was. They were from Washington USA and gave vague instructions. When I eventually set out on foot I was surprised by the same people asking me to ride in their car and said they would drop me by the Fish & Chip shop. I gratefully accepted.
An earlier chat with a local recommended Kelso so that evening we decided to head further east and arriving quite late in Kelso, we ‘wild camped’ next to a parked lorry just outside. The lorry woke us at 5.30 am.

Day 5:
The early morning wake prompted us to move to the town long stay car park, it was free all day. Kelso has block stone streets and lovely bridges and we explored here until lunchtime and then headed east again. Berwick on Tweed was the next stop, huge town wall and a short walk to beach. We then went slightly inland to the Plough Inn. Their charge for a spot in their car park was £10. The view from here was better than their small campsite.

Day 6:
Went to ‘Holy Island’ for the day. We timed it so that the causeway would be open. Parking was easy and plenty of room. It was about a mile to walk to the castle. Excellent place, lots to see. Returned to the Plough Inn for night 2. Same lovely spot for another £10

Day 7:
Set off for Cragside, one of the more prestigious National Trust properties. Motorhomes are directed to a specific parking area as they are too big to use the park’s extensive roads. A lot to see here - highlights were the formal garden and the ‘wow’ of the Italian clad marble wall in the house.
Arrived at Keider Water Caravan Park by early evening. They charge £35 per night but the facilities are extensive.

Day 9:
Headed north from Keider as to avoid going back the way we came. So we crossed back into Scotland. Then east until we came to A68 and then headed south. The views were magnificent. Picking up supplies in Hexham we found a touring park near there and stopped over. Award winning Fallowfield charged us £18.50. inc ehu.

Day 10

Post birdtrek Yesterday at 10:00 pm

Day 10:
Set off and went straight to Beamish. Full marks for them for looking after Motorhomes. We were directed to a dedicated area and parked nose to tail with the other motorhomes.. Another AutSleeper Symbol pulled in behind us, and we had an enjoyable chat before setting off. Lots to see, but it was a day of long queues and lots of walking.
Headed from here back towards Yorkshire and stopped at Swaleview Park in Richmond. Cost £18 ehu was £4 extra, which I declined. The shower cost us another 50p each and donated another 50p to someone who had arrived with only a switch card!

Days 13 - 14 - 15 ...

We concluded our holiday at the Western Motorhome Show in Malvern Showground. It was £54 to camp for the whole weekend, as we had not pre booked. There was no ehu. We were surprised at the size of the event and had never seen so many motorhomes at one venue. Entertainment was provided through the day and evenings. The 'big' event on the Saturday night was ticketed at £14 per person. Many thanks to the stranger who approached us that evening and gave us two tickets for free, the show was excellent.
